Are you stuck on the local block and struggling to take your cycling to the next level? Do you have children but think it is just too hard to get them all out on bikes?
Well how about taking some inspiration from the Vogel Family who are soon to set off on the adventure of a lifetime. The Vogel’s are experienced travellers but in June will commence their greatest trip yet. A 20,000 mile, 30 month bicycle tour from Alaska to Argentina.
As if that is not remarkable enough, consider the makeup of the Vogel family. There is John and Nancy Vogel, their two ten year old twin boys and a dog….and they are all going on this cycling adventure. They are the Family On Bikes.
While on tour John and Nancy will also be contributing to Reach the World. An education organization with the mission of linking students in under-funded schools to online, global expeditions.
If you are considering touring with your kids you may want to check out the cycle touring resources page on the Vogel’s website which has some very useful information.
Next time you are contemplating cycling with your kids and thinking that is it perhaps all too hard, I suggest you think back to the story of the Vogels. I have subscribed the Vogel’s blog and look forward to watching their progress over the next 30 months.

Pete, great write-up and linkage. I don’t know if I could do that. Sometimes I can’t stand to be in the same house with my wife (just kidding honey) so I couldn’t imagine riding from Alaska to South America with her. Wow!

That’s pretty cool! I get my 7, 6 and 3 year olds out on their bikes, in fact my 7 & 6 year old are starting to do event rides. I’m sure I won’t have any problem getting them to go on an epic journey like going from Alaska to Argentina. It will take a few years to get my wife to warm up to the idea.
