Why You Should Commute By Bike

In case you hadn’t already noticed, this week is Bike to Work week in America. I know that we all think that bicycle commuting is a good idea. But what are some of the facts behind it?

I came across BikesBelong.org which is an American organisation trying to put more people on bicycles more often. Mat Barlow, one of their employees, created this excellent video of his morning commute which includes many of the reasons why commuting by bike is a great idea. Two of the statistics that really stood out were:

  • 40% of all car journeys are for less than 2 miles
  • The average person loses 13lbs in their first year of bike commuting

Enjoyed video, but thought the bike had no brakes? Is that right?

Nice video. If I wasn’t working from home, I’d ride my bike.
